Due to an event, the State Hall will not open until 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

Reading rooms

The reading rooms on Heldenplatz and the reading rooms of the collections are closed on public holidays. This also applies to Sunday, June 8, and Monday, June 9 (Pentecost), as well as Thursday, June 19 (Corpus Christi).

Regular opening hours apply in the museums; in addition, all museums are open on Whit Monday.

Papyrus Museum

The Papyrus Museum is only open from 12 noon on 11 June.

Using the Departement of Music

To use the extensive holdings in the Department of Music, you will need valid photo ID and a library card for the Austrian National Library (the library regulations apply).

The Department of Music is essentially a reference library. You are welcome to use our spacious Reading Room!
For conservation reasons, use of the original manuscripts is restricted.
You can view up to ten items a day. Normally, the items will be available for you in the Reading Room no more than two hours after being ordered.
Members of the information service in the Reading Room will be pleased to tell you about our collections and how to search them.

Reproductions

With permission from library staff, secondary literature can be copied unless this is not allowed for conservation reasons.
If you require reproductions of manuscripts or music prints, you can request a scan (conditions)
Taking photographs in the Reading Room is permitted by agreement with the information service staff on duty.

Loans for exhibitions

Please send requests for loans in writing, stating the items you require (if possible with reference numbers), directly to this email address. Please give the name of the borrowing organisation and the title, location and duration of the exhibition. You can find the terms and conditions and charges here.
