Reading rooms at Heldenplatz

The reading rooms at Heldenplatz will be open as usual on Saturday, December 6, and Sunday, December 7, but will be closed on Monday, December 8, due to the public holiday.

Reading rooms

The reading rooms on Heldenplatz will be open during the Christmas holidays, with the exception of December 24 and 31 as well as public holidays. The reading rooms of the collections will only be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. between December 27, 2025 and January 5, 2026.

Augustiner Reading Room closed on December 9, 2025

Due to an event, the Augustiner Reading Room will be closed all day on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Reading services will be relocated to the Study Reading Room of the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books.

Newly acquired feminist literature To the historic women's journals Women's movement(s) 1848–1938

Since 1992, Ariadne's thread has been leading users reliably through the labyrinth of material relating to women, feminism and gender studies, across all collections of the Austrian National Library.

  • We collect current research literature on women’s and gender studies and document new acquisitions.
  • We annotate articles in journals and collected works with feminist subject indexing, so that they can be easily found in the Ariadne Special Collection in the QuickSearch catalogue.
  • We identify the relevant sources in the Austrian National Library's historic holdings, process them and make them accessible: gender-related history can be viewed on the web portal about Historic Women’s Movements and its sources are available online, while the online exhibition Women use your vote! records the struggle for women's right to vote.
  • We inform you via the Ariadne Newsletter, published every two months, about our activities and services, current events, new additions to the collection, and a feminist figure from history in focus. (Thank you for understanding that our newsletter is available in German only.)
  • We answer questions and carry out research for you. Send us your question via e-mail at ariadne[at]onb.ac.at.
