What do a cat telephone, a map of Timbuktu and a song by Elvis Presley have in common? They are all motifs in contemporary Austrian literature. And you will encounter them all in the first special exhibition of the Literature Museum "Pencil, Notebook & Laptop. 10 Positions of Contemporary Writing".
The show conveys a lively picture of contemporary Austrian literature. Ten writers present their work and their approaches to writing. Exciting insights into the creation of texts, into writing biographies and the "workshops" of contemporary authors are guaranteed. You can expect drawings, photos, videos, film and theatre excerpts, collages and graphic works as well as artistic collaborations.
Different media enrich literature by transcending the boundaries of the text. Follow how ideas are spun out in other media and taken up in new formats: from audio notes to novel projects, from research interviews to radio plays, from snapshots to linguistic images.
With contributions by Brigitta Falkner, Hanno Millesi, Richard Obermayr, Teresa Präauer, Kathrin Röggla, Ferdinand Schmatz, Clemens J. Setz, Thomas Stangl, Gerhild Steinbuch and Anna Weidenholzer. Curated by author Angelika Reitzer and literary scholar Wolfgang Straub.
For further reading: In the book accompanying the exhibition, the authors provide information about their working methods and aesthetic principles in the form of literary-essayistic original contributions. Numerous illustrations open up surprising references to other art forms such as the visual arts, photography or film. The 64-page book can be purchased for 12.90 euros at our service desk.
